Early tomato blight (black spot)

Early tomato blight causes ulcers at the base of the stems, which may surround the entire stem causing the plant to dry out. The Alternaria alternata f.sp. lycopersici fungus of early tomato blight (black spot) also attacks the tomatoes, producing sunken brownish-black spots over large areas.

Symptoms

Early tomato blight causes ulcers at the base of the stems, which may surround the entire stem causing the plant to dry out.

The tomatoes are also affected, where sunken brownish-black spots develop over large areas.

Pathogen – Growth conditions

The disease is caused by the fungus Alternaria alternata f.sp. lycopersici. Infections occur in wet weather, in the presence of free moisture on the plants and at relatively high temperatures (20-25 degrees Celsius).
